There are two lovely, small women's clothing shops next to each other on the pedestrianised street, both of which are looking to the future with confidence. Colenne and Sinun-Vaate Salina believe in the need for brick-and-mortar shops, now and in the future, to enliven the urban landscape and provide a service to citizens.
Business Services Manager Susanna Aramo went to see what small brick-and-mortar shops in Järvenpää's city centre are all about.
New owners in both stores
Both shops have a long tradition in Järvenpää. Salina is now 30 years old in November. Congratulations! The change of ownership has just taken place in October from mother to daughter, when Pauliina Paavola continues to support her daughter Heini Koskinen for a while longer under joint ownership. Colenne will be managed by new owner Tytti Hannulabacka from the beginning of June 2020. She has five years of entrepreneurial experience in the same field in Alajärvi. The previous owner of Colenne ran the shop for about 20 years.
Leverage from the neighbourhood movement
The absolute advantage of small clothing shops is professional and personal customer service. If you can't find the right product in Salina, you'll be directed to Colenne and vice versa, as the clothing stores have different offerings. As customers have become much more quality and origin conscious recently, both stores place great emphasis on ethically made clothing.
”Pienten myymälöiden vahvuutena on henkilökohtainen asiakaspalvelu ja vahva tieto-taito. Salinasta löytyy kaikille jotain, sillä koot ovat 34-52”, kertoo Salinan Pauliina Paavola.
”Kaikkea ihanaa löytyy! Meille voi kertoa, jos liikkeestä puuttuu jotain, sillä uusia vaatteiden toimittajia kartoitetaan koko ajan”, muistuttaa Colennen Tytti Hannulabacka.
It is still safe to shop in small shops, even at this high interest rate
The shops at Sibeliuksenkatu 21 are safe to shop and try on clothes in, and both entrepreneurs feel that the interest rate has had relatively little impact in the end, but time will tell. It has had more of an impact on the fact that products from Europe, for example, may have experienced temporary delivery problems or shortages of fabrics.
Both entrepreneurs stress that the city should continue to have brick-and-mortar shops, as this is the hallmark of the city. Colenne and Your-Vaate Salina welcome all existing and new customers to their shops.
”Mikä sen parempaa kuin piristää itseään tai läheisiään kauniilla vaatteilla ja samalla tukea paikallista yritystoimintaa”, toteaa yrityspalvelupäällikkö Aramo.
