In Järvenpää, cars will be resource-wise and flexible in the future, and will increasingly run on gas. A suitable site for a Gasum gas filling station was found in the Boogie business park.

The Gasum gas station will open by the end of this year at Diggarinkatu 8 A and will strengthen the station network in Central Uusimaa in particular.

- This gas station is highly anticipated. It will be located in the immediate vicinity of Järvenpää's main access road and will serve a variety of vehicles from different directions," say Susanna Aramo, Business Services Manager and Tarja Kariniemi, Plot Manager, who led the negotiations on behalf of the City of Järvenpää.

The gas station also serves delivery trucks

A gas vehicle runs on natural gas or biogas and all gas cars also run on petrol. There are almost 12 000 gas vehicles in Finland. This figure includes cars and vans. The popularity of gas vehicles in Finland has grown rapidly in recent years, with the number of vehicles almost doubling in 2019.

- The new filling station will serve passenger car traffic and light transport vehicles, such as delivery trucks and refuse trucks, by providing low-emission and cost-effective bio- and natural gas. The gas car models will provide private car drivers and businesses with an affordable and low-emission alternative to driving," says Olli Paasio, Country Manager for Finland at Gasum's Transport Division.

The station will be located next to Lidl's distribution centre and Puuilo. Gasum is currently building Gigantti and Saka-Auto on the neighbouring plot, so the location of the gas station is optimal.

Home care and food delivery with biogas

The Järvenpää gas station will be implemented as a gas container solution, which means that the station will not have a direct connection to the gas pipeline network. The gas containers will be changed regularly according to consumption.

- Resource wisdom is one of the cornerstones of our urban strategy, and drastic reductions in transport emissions are key to achieving these goals. Above all, the city wants to create opportunities for lower-emission mobility for residents and operators in the area. Biogas is an important addition to the ways in which Järvenpää can make everyday choices to reduce emissions while promoting the circular economy," says Olli Keto-Tokoi, Director of Urban Development.

Gasum currently has 34 filling stations in Finland. The choice of the new station location was influenced by Järvenpää's central location in the heart of Central Uusimaa, a major logistics hub and the immediate proximity of the Lahti motorway, which enables transport both to the Helsinki metropolitan area and to the rest of Finland.

The nearest Gasum gas filling stations are located in Hyvinkää, Porvoo, Porttipuisto in Vantaa, elsewhere in the Helsinki region and in Lahti. Järvenpää is a good addition to the Gasum network.

- We hope that the new station in Järvenpää will raise awareness of gas driving and increase the number of gas vehicles in the region, Olli Paasio continues.

- Gasum is an excellent example of a company whose operations support our resource efficiency goals. It is a great fact that there are several companies in Järvenpää whose environmentally responsible practices complement the city's own, and all of this is important for the city," says Susanna Aramo.

Gasum suggests that this is an excellent opportunity for Järvenpää and other operators in the region to consider gas-powered vehicles for use in home care and food transport, for example, and to refuel them with renewable biogas in the future.

The construction schedule for the station will be further specified and Gasum will provide more information as the station project progresses.
