The best sausage of the year comes from Järvenpää again this year - family business Wursti was awarded for the third year in a row.
The Academic Kiuas Society r.y. (AKS) has again selected the best sausages of the year.Of the 124 sausages evaluated, the best overall score went to the Domestic Chili-Cheddar Raw Sausage made by Wursti Oy for the S Group. The recognition was crowned with a double win: Wursti's Feta Basil sausage 250g was chosen as the best sausage of the year. The jury of the Academic Kiuas Society appreciated the winning sausage for its balanced flavour profile:
"Quality cheese keeps the chilli in check and there are no sharp taste or flavour spikes, a successful chilli sausage," comments Jyri Jämsä, Chairman of the Academic Kiuas Society, on the best sausage of the year.
The fact that the best sausage of the year this year was raw sausage says something about the evolution of food trends. Raw sausages, previously mainly used for grilling, are slowly finding their way into year-round use. Wurst is well aware of raw sausages and their versatility - after all, the company has been producing Finland's best-known raw sausage, Siskonmakkara, for over 30 years.
"Raw sausages, like Siskonmakkara, are very versatile and can be used in a wide range of dishes. For example, in addition to tasty soups, Siskonmakkarka is increasingly being used to make nuggets, tacos, woks and chilli con carne!" says Sallamari Lempinen, Wurst's Product Manager.

The Academic Stove Society has been tasting sausages since 1991 and has met for evaluation[1] sessions 994 times. During this tasting season, a total of 124 sausages from 9 different countries were evaluated, 91 of which were novelties made in Finland. The blind tasting evaluates taste, texture, consistency of the paste and crispness of the skin.
